Before I had surgery, my weight got up to 267 lbs. I was uncomfortable most of the time. I didn’t feel well and I didn’t have much energy. At the time, my son was very young and very active. He loved to play outside and he was always on the move. He wanted me to play with him, but my weight got in the way of my doing things with him. I was frustrated that it was hard for me to keep up. I wanted to be the kind of mom who could play ball and be an active part of his life, but I knew I had to lose weight to make that happen.

I started thinking about weight loss surgery, and although it seemed like a drastic step, I needed a drastic change. Since having the surgery, I’ve lost 130 lbs. I feel so much better, and I am definitely more active in my son’s life. He’s always known that I love him, but because I can do more things with him now, we can spend more time doing things that matter to him, and our relationship is even better. I can’t imagine what my life – or his - would be like today, if I hadn’t had the surgery. It was the right choice for me.
